When coaching baseball, after introducing the grip to players learning to throw the baseball, it is important that they begin to see how to involve the whole body in making a strong throw. The role of the fingers and wrist is often overlooked. To get the feel for how they work, isolate the wrist and play catch with the fingers and wrist doing all of the work. Flex the wrist and pull the middle finger directly through the center of the ball so that it spins from 12 to 6 on a clock. The drill in this video is step one in the process of getting all of the available parts involved. The other steps are outlined in the iBook, Practice Baseball to win.
